St. George is the patron saint of Catalonia (as well as of England of course). His saint’s day is celebrated in Catalonia with gifts of individual red roses by men to women and of a book from women to men. That tradition is also celebrated in Andorra, where, although St. George is not the patron saint, the strong influence of Catalonia ensures that this tradition survives, with rose sellers out on the pavement in every parish and special outdoor bookstalls in Andorra la Vella and Escaldes.

Accordingly, it is very appropriate that our chaplaincy should bear the name of a saint who is not only the patron saint of England, but also so well known and celebrated in Andorra.
